INPI Simplifies the Recordal of Industrial Property Assignments
The Argentine Patent and Trademark Office (INPI) has issued Resolution No. 162/2026, approving a new Regulation governing the recordal of assignments and changes in business activity. The new framework introduces significant simplifications for owners of industrial property rights.
Among the most noteworthy changes, the Resolution eliminates the requirement for apostille certification and consular legalization of assignment documents and documents evidencing legal representation executed abroad when submitted before the INPI. This measure reduces costs, removes administrative burdens, and streamlines recordal procedures.
However, documents executed in a foreign language must still be accompanied by a Spanish translation prepared by a Certified Public Translator duly registered in Argentina, a requirement that remains in full force.
Resolution No. 162/2026 forms part of a broader effort to modernize and simplify administrative procedures relating to trademarks, patents, utility models, and industrial designs, benefiting both local and foreign rights holders.
